To ease traffic congestion on the Pune-Solapur highway, the Maharashtra government has approved the construction of a 25-km long flyover from Hadapsar to Yavat. The project will be carried out by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) and is expected to cost ₹5,262 crore.

The new flyover will be six lanes wide and built over the existing National Highway 65. The highway beneath it will also be expanded to six lanes. Additionally, the 6.5-km stretch from Yavat to Solapur will be widened to six lanes.

This route is important for transporting agricultural produce, industrial goods, and for other business travel between Pune and Solapur. However, heavy traffic jams are common, especially near city entry points.

The project will be implemented on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model. Once completed, vehicles using the flyover will have to pay toll, which will be collected using FastTag, GPS, or other advanced systems. The toll rates will be reviewed by the state government every three years.

The state will fund the expansion of the existing road, while the remaining work will be done through a public-private partnership. If the flyover alignment needs to be changed due to the proposed Pune Metro line, MSIDC will have to seek government approval.

This flyover is similar to the ones planned between Wagholi and Shirur on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway and another greenfield highway project between Pune and Aurangabad. These projects aim to improve long-distance travel and reduce congestion in Pune city by diverting heavy traffic through a proposed ring road.
