Mumbai, July 12, 2025: In a major development within Maharashtra’s political circles, Jayant Patil has resigned from the post of state president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharad Pawar faction. Senior leader Shashikant Shinde has been appointed as the new state president and will formally assume charge on July 15.

Patil, who led the state unit for seven years, had earlier requested party supremo Sharad Pawar to relieve him from the post, saying it was time to give opportunities to new faces. “Pawar Saheb gave me several opportunities over the past seven years. Now, the party needs to bring in fresh leadership to move forward,” Patil had said during the party’s foundation day on June 10.

Shashikant Shinde’s Reaction
Speaking to ABP Maza, Shashikant Shinde expressed gratitude to Sharad Pawar and other senior leaders for their trust. “The party will decide who leads. If chosen, I will put in my best efforts to strengthen the organisation and live up to the expectations,” he said. Shinde also emphasised the importance of nurturing new leadership and tackling pressing issues like unemployment and agrarian distress.
