India Extend Dominance: ICC T20 Team And Batting Rankings Announced; Abhishek Sharma Rises to World No. 1
Abhishek Sharma rises to World No. 1 as India top both team and batting charts.
India have strengthened their position as the leading force in T20 cricket, topping the latest ICC T20 Team Rankings while also dominating the newly released batting list. The updated table places India firmly at Rank 1, reflecting their strong year across bilateral series and major tournaments. Australia, South Africa and England follow behind, but India remain the only team with consistent depth across formats and match situations.
Abhishek Sharma has set a new world record in ICC T20I batting rankings, reaching an unprecedented 931 rating points after his Asia Cup heroics, surpassing Dawid Malan’s 919 and Virat Kohli’s career-best 909. According to the new list, Sharma leads the top-10 with a career peak rating powered by a fluent series against Australia, where he scored 163 runs and was named Player of the Series.
His rise also includes a historic milestone, becoming the fastest batter among full-member nations to reach 1000 T20I runs, achieving the feat in just 528 balls. This puts him ahead of star performers like Suryakumar Yadav and Phil Salt in efficiency.

Despite a rare failure in the final, where Sharma was dismissed for five runs by Faheem Ashraf during India’s 147-run chase against Pakistan, his earlier contributions had already secured his spot at the summit of the rankings. His consistency and aggression at the top order enabled him to finish with an average close to 45 and a remarkable strike rate of 200, helping him retain the No. 1 position amongst T20I batters.
The team rankings also underline the shift in global T20 competitiveness. With India holding the top spot, Australia, South Africa, England and New Zealand complete the top five. Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies and Bangladesh follow, while Ireland and Afghanistan round up the upper block of the chart.
India’s presence with multiple players inside the top bracket reflects the team’s striking depth and evolving batting approach. India’s dual dominance in team rankings and individual performances signals growing momentum ahead of major T20 assignments. With young batters hitting new peaks and the squad showing balance across departments, these rankings point to an increasingly stable era for the Indian T20 setup.
