Tragedy struck in Maharashtra’s Nanded district on Thursday morning when a family of four was found dead under mysterious circumstances, prompting police to suspect a possible mass suicide.

Ramesh Sonaji Lakhe (51) and his wife Radhabai Lakhe (45) were discovered lifeless on a cot inside their home in Jawala Murar village, Mudkhed tehsil, around 8 am. Following this, their two sons, Umesh (25) and Bajrang (23), were found dead on nearby railway tracks, appearing to have jumped in front of a moving train.

Police inspector Dattatray Manthale confirmed the discovery, stating, “The parents were found deceased at home, while the sons lost their lives on the railway tracks. Forensic experts have been called in to collect evidence, and the complete details will emerge only after thorough investigation and autopsy reports.”

Although the circumstances suggest the deaths could be part of a suicide pact, authorities are yet to determine the exact reasons behind this tragic event. The Lakhe family belonged to a small-scale farming community. Whether financial hardship or domestic issues led to this extreme step is still under investigation.

Neighbours described the family as hardworking and resilient, constantly striving to make ends meet despite the challenges of small-land farming.

Rural police in Nanded are currently recording statements from relatives and searching for any notes or messages left by the family to understand their motivations. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities emphasizing that all possibilities are being carefully examined before drawing conclusions.
