The decision was unanimously approved by the board to honour Ajitdada Pawar’s contribution to Pune’s cooperative movement.

In a significant and emotional decision, the Pune District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited, popularly known as Katraj Milk Union, has been renamed Ajitdada Pawar Pune District Cooperative Milk Producers Union, Katraj. The resolution to change the name was unanimously approved by the union’s board of directors at a meeting held on January 31.

The move has been described by the union as an effort to permanently honour the leadership and guidance provided by Ajitdada Pawar to the cooperative movement in Pune district. Office bearers said the decision goes beyond a symbolic name change and reflects the deep impact of Pawar’s role in strengthening cooperatives and supporting milk-producing farmers.

According to the union, Ajitdada Pawar had consistently guided the cooperative sector in Pune and extended support to the Katraj Milk Union at several crucial stages of its growth. He regularly attended the union’s annual meetings and helped with coordination at the administrative level, contributing to its expansion and long-term planning.

The union also highlighted Pawar’s role in facilitating land acquisition for infrastructure development and supporting institutional building aimed at benefiting milk producers. “Dada’s vision was always focused on strengthening cooperatives and empowering farmers. His guidance shaped many key decisions of the Sangh,” the union stated.

The resolution was presented at a board meeting chaired by Chairman Adv. Swapnil Dhamdhere. Chairman Tanaji Jagtap and directors including Gopalrao Anna Mhaske, Vishnukaka Hinge, Balasaheb Newale, Balsaheb Khilari, Keshartai Pawar, Bhagwan Bappu Pasalkar, Dilip Nana Thopte, Rahul Divekar, Bhausaheb Devade, Arun Chambhare, Kalidas Gopalghare, Nikhil Tambe, Latatai Gopale and Chandrakant Bhingare were present. All directors unanimously supported the proposal.

The Sangh clarified that the renaming is intended to preserve the memory of leadership that inspired generations within the cooperative sector. It added that necessary administrative formalities, permissions and registrations related to the new name will be completed at the appropriate level in the coming days.

The decision has drawn attention within Pune’s cooperative circles, where Ajitdada Pawar is remembered as a guiding force who consistently supported institutions linked to farmers and rural development.
