Pune: Daylight Chain Snatching Incident Caught On CCTV; Two Bike-Borne Thieves Escape
Shirur, Pune, March 23, 2026: In a daring daylight robbery, unidentified thieves snatched a gold mangalsutra worth approximately ₹2.4 lakh from a woman at a hotel in the Tardobachi Wadi area on Golegaon Road in Shirur taluka.
According to police officials, the victim, identified as Baisa Satish Kharbas (40), was standing at the hotel counter when the incident occurred. Two men arrived on a motorcycle and executed the theft in a matter of seconds. One of the accused approached the counter under the pretext of purchasing a water bottle. Taking advantage of the moment, he suddenly snatched the 22-gram gold mangalsutra from the woman’s neck and fled.
The accused then escaped along with his accomplice on a red-and-black Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle towards Shirur town.
A case has been registered at the Shirur Police Station, and an investigation is currently underway. The entire incident has been captured on CCTV cameras installed at the hotel, providing crucial leads for the police.
Authorities have launched a search operation to trace the suspects and have appealed to the public for any information that could assist in their identification.
The incident has raised concerns among local residents over rising incidents of chain snatching in the area, prompting demands for increased police patrolling and improved security measures.
