Maharashtra weather update for March 24: IMD warns of heatwave in Konkan and unseasonal rain in parts of Marathwada and Western Maharashtra. Yellow alert issued in multiple districts.
Pune, March 23: The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for Maharashtra, warning of a dual threat of heatwave conditions and unseasonal rainfall over the next 24 hours. A yellow alert has been घोषित for at least 10 districts across the state.
According to the latest forecast for March 24, the Konkan region is expected to experience hot and humid conditions. Cities including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Palghar will continue to face sultry weather, with high humidity levels intensifying discomfort. Mumbai is likely to record maximum temperatures between 32°C and 36°C. Except for Sindhudurg, all districts in the region are under a yellow alert for heat.
In Western Maharashtra, Pune is expected to witness dry and hot weather, with temperatures ranging from 33°C to 36°C. However, districts such as Satara, Sangli and Solapur are under a yellow alert for unseasonal rainfall. These areas may experience light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph.
In North Maharashtra, districts like Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar will continue to experience hot weather, with Nashik recording temperatures between 33°C and 35°C.
In the Marathwada region, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna and Parbhani are likely to remain hot and dry, with temperatures ranging from 33°C to 37°C. Meanwhile, Dharashiv, Latur and Nanded are under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and rainfall with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph.
In Vidarbha, districts including Nagpur, Amravati, Akola, Washim, Yavatmal, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Buldhana, hot weather conditions are expected to persist, with maximum temperatures ranging between 34°C and 38°C.
Authorities have advised citizens to take precautions against heat-related illnesses and sudden weather changes. Farmers have also been urged to safeguard crops due to the risk of gusty winds and unseasonal rain.
