Maharashtra Weather Alert: Yellow Alert for 17 Districts on April 22 Amid Unseasonal Rain and Heatwave Conditions
Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds likely across Konkan, Pune, Marathwada, and Vidarbha; temperatures expected to rise after April 22
Maharashtra | April 21:
A fresh weather alert in Maharashtra has been issued as the state continues to face a dual threat of unseasonal rainfall and rising heatwave conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a yellow alert for 17 districts on April 22, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across multiple regions.
Over the past two days, several parts of the state—including Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Marathwada—have witnessed sudden weather changes, with thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and even hailstorms reported in isolated areas.
Konkan Region
The IMD has forecast continued unseasonal rain activity in Konkan, including Mumbai, over the next few days. Districts like Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are under a yellow alert, with winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h accompanied by rainfall. Residents are also expected to face hot and humid conditions.
Madhya Maharashtra
Key districts including Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur will continue to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds (30–50 km/h) over the next four days. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 36°C and 40°C. Authorities have warned of possible crop damage due to hailstorms and strong winds.
Marathwada
The Marathwada region is also facing a mix of heatwave and unseasonal rainfall. Areas in southern Marathwada and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar are likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and possible hail on Wednesday, with temperatures hovering between 38°C and 42°C.
Vidarbha
In Vidarbha, particularly the Amravati division, light rainfall accompanied by gusty winds is expected. However, rainfall activity may reduce after April 22, though cloudy conditions could persist in some areas. Districts such as Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Gondia remain under yellow alert, with temperatures ranging from 40°C to 45°C.
Outlook
The IMD has indicated that weather conditions may change significantly after April 22, with rainfall activity likely to decrease and temperatures expected to rise further. Interior parts of Maharashtra could see temperatures climbing to 41–43°C over the next 2–3 days.
Advisory
Citizens are advised to stay cautious during thunderstorms, avoid open areas during lightning, and take precautions against heat exposure. Farmers are urged to safeguard crops and equipment amid the possibility of hailstorms and strong winds.
