Man Suddenly Paralysed After 6 Rasgullas? Doctor Reveals Hidden Condition Behind Shocking Case
A 35-year-old man reportedly developed sudden weakness in all four limbs after eating rasgullas, but doctors say the sweets were not the real cause.
A surprising medical case from Hyderabad has drawn attention after a 35-year-old man reportedly developed temporary paralysis shortly after eating five to six rasgullas.
Doctors said the sweets were fresh and not linked to food poisoning. Instead, the real cause was identified as a rare medical condition called hypokalemic periodic paralysis, which can be triggered after consuming carbohydrate-rich foods.
The man reportedly suffered sudden weakness in all four limbs and became unable to move properly. According to doctors, this was not the first time. He had experienced three similar episodes in the previous six months, each following heavy carbohydrate intake.
Medical tests during the latest attack showed his potassium levels had dropped significantly. After receiving potassium supplements, he recovered quickly.

Experts explained that carbohydrate-heavy foods can trigger a sharp insulin surge in some people. This may push potassium from the bloodstream into body cells, causing a sudden fall in blood potassium levels. When potassium drops sharply, muscles may temporarily stop functioning normally, leading to weakness or paralysis.
Doctors also found that the condition may be linked to an underlying thyroid disorder, which can increase the risk of such attacks.
In another similar case shared by the neurologist, a 33-year-old man reportedly became bedbound multiple times after eating jalebi with rabdi during celebrations. His episodes were later linked to the same condition.
Health experts say occasional sweets are not dangerous for most people. However, repeated weakness, sudden paralysis, cramps, or unusual fatigue after meals should not be ignored.
Early diagnosis and treatment can help manage the condition and prevent future episodes. Doctors also advise moderation in sweets, especially for people with thyroid issues or unexplained recurring weakness.
The case has sparked wide discussion online, with many surprised that a festive dessert could uncover a hidden medical problem.
