LPG New Rule: Surrender Gas Connection Before June; Consumers Asked To Choose Between LPG And PNG
Oil companies have reportedly started enforcing a “no dual connection” rule for households using both LPG cylinders and PNG connections at the same address. Consumers may have to surrender one connection before July 1 to avoid suspension.
Domestic gas users across India may soon face stricter rules regarding LPG and PNG connections. According to recent reports, public sector oil companies including Indane, Bharat Gas and HP Gas have started implementing a “no dual connection” policy following new government guidelines.

Under the reported rules, households may no longer be allowed to keep both an LPG cylinder connection and a PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connection at the same residential address. Consumers have reportedly been asked to surrender one of the two connections before June 30, failing which one connection could be suspended from July 1.
The move comes as PNG usage continues to rise in major cities and housing societies across the country. PNG is considered safer, cheaper and more convenient than traditional LPG cylinders. However, many households continued retaining LPG connections as backup even after shifting to PNG.
According to reports, the government and oil companies believe dual connections increase unnecessary pressure on supply systems and may also contribute to misuse and black marketing of subsidised gas cylinders.
Oil companies have reportedly begun identifying customers who hold both LPG and PNG connections at the same address. Consumers may be required to voluntarily surrender one connection to avoid future complications.
The reports further state that legal action could be taken in cases where multiple gas connections are obtained fraudulently or through false declarations.
Consumers wishing to surrender an LPG connection will reportedly need to visit their local gas agency and fill out a surrender form. After submitting the gas cylinder and regulator, the agency will issue a surrender certificate. The refundable security deposit paid during the original connection process may be credited back to the customer’s bank account.
Officials have not yet issued a detailed nationwide public clarification regarding implementation timelines in every state. However, reports suggest companies have already started scrutiny of duplicate or dual domestic gas connections.
The development comes amid growing discussions around cooking gas prices and fuel policies in the country. LPG cylinder prices have also witnessed fluctuations over the past few months, adding to public attention on household fuel expenses.
Consumers are advised to check directly with their gas distributor or official oil company websites for confirmed instructions related to surrender procedures, penalties or eligibility rules.
