Pune, May 28: After repeated complaints from residents and daily commuters about poor hygiene and maintenance at BRTS bus stations in Pimple Saudagar, the PMPML administration has launched a large-scale cleanliness drive across the corridor.

For the past few weeks, commuters had been struggling with dusty seating areas, garbage piling up near platforms, and poorly maintained bus shelters. Many passengers, especially women, students, and senior citizens who use public transport regularly, expressed frustration over the unhygienic conditions.

Taking serious note of the issue, local corporator Shatrughan (Bapu) Kate, along with corporators Anita Tai Kate and Kunda Tai Bhise, instructed PMPML officials and sanitation teams to take immediate action and improve the condition of the stations.

Following their intervention, cleaning operations were carried out at several BRTS stations in the Pimple Saudagar area. The drive included removal of accumulated garbage, machine-based dust cleaning, washing of seating spaces, and water spraying across station premises to improve cleanliness and commuter comfort.

Speaking about the initiative, corporator Shatrughan (Bapu) Kate said that public transport facilities should always remain clean and convenient for citizens.

“These bus stations are meant for public use, and citizens should not have to travel through unhygienic surroundings. We directed the PMPML administration to start the cleaning work immediately. Efforts to improve cleanliness and civic facilities in Pimple Saudagar will continue,” he said.

PCMC Field Officer Mahesh Gaikwad said the administration responded quickly after receiving multiple complaints from residents.

“We received several complaints regarding the unhygienic condition of BRTS stations in the Pimple Saudagar area. Under the guidance of senior officials, immediate cleaning work was started. Garbage, dust, and waste are being removed from all stations, and steps are also being taken to ensure regular maintenance in the future,” Gaikwad said.

The clean-up drive has received a positive response from local residents and commuters, many of whom appreciated the quick action taken by the authorities. Citizens have also urged officials to carry out regular maintenance to prevent the stations from falling into poor condition again.

The development is being seen as a positive step towards improving public transport infrastructure and making daily travel more comfortable for commuters in the Rahatani–Pimple Saudagar area of Pimpri-Chinchwad.
