Pune, June 20, 2026: A 27-year-old software engineer allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the third floor of a residential building in Pune’s Sinhagad Road area. Police have registered a case against her husband, mother-in-law, and other relatives for allegedly abetting her suicide through sustained harassment.
The deceased has been identified as Deepti Pradeep Ekshinge, a resident of Manik Baug on Sinhagad Road. The complaint was lodged by her brother, Dr. Kiran Tushar Dudhbale (30), a resident of Chamorshi in Gadchiroli district, at the Sinhagad Road Police Station.
Based on the complaint, police have booked Deepti’s husband Pradeep Vitthal Ekshinge, her mother-in-law Surekha Ekshinge, and other relatives under relevant sections of the law.
According to police, Deepti was originally from Chamorshi village in Gadchiroli district. She and Pradeep, both software engineers, met while working at an information technology company. Their friendship later developed into a relationship, and the couple entered into a love marriage in Pune on November 17, 2024.
The complaint alleges that after the marriage, Deepti was subjected to mental harassment by her husband, mother-in-law, and relatives because the couple did not have children. She was allegedly taunted and repeatedly subjected to emotional distress over the issue.
Unable to cope with the alleged harassment, Deepti reportedly jumped from the third floor of her residential building on June 17, resulting in her death.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter. Further investigation is being carried out by Assistant Police Inspector Rajkumar Adagale of Sinhagad Road Police Station.
