Pune: DRI Deputy Director Receives Death Threat In Dawood’s Name; Case Registered
Pune, June 20, 2026: A shocking case has come to light in Pune where a senior officer of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and his family were allegedly threatened with death by a man claiming links to the notorious Dawood Ibrahim gang.
According to police, the Deputy Director of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence’s Pune Zonal Unit lodged a complaint at the Airport Police Station after receiving a series of threatening calls and voice messages.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against Mushtaq Sheikh and his associates.
Investigators said the accused first contacted the officer on June 3 while the latter was travelling to his native place. During the call, the accused allegedly expressed interest in working as an informer for the DRI and requested a meeting. The officer informed him that he was travelling and would speak later.
On June 5, while the officer was in Patna, Bihar, the accused allegedly contacted him again and claimed that several laptops and mobile phones brought from Dubai had been seized by Customs officials at Mumbai Airport. He reportedly sought the officer’s help in getting the goods released.
The situation escalated on June 6 at around 3:45 am when the accused allegedly sent a voice message through a social media platform. In the message, he accused the officer of providing information to Customs authorities, which led to action against his associates.
The complainant stated that the accused claimed to have been involved in smuggling activities for the past 30 years and alleged that he worked for the Dawood Ibrahim gang. The accused allegedly threatened the officer and his family, warning that he would monitor their movements and implying harm if action continued against his network.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter and are examining the source and authenticity of the threats, as well as the accused’s alleged criminal connections. Further inquiry is underway.
