Ameet Singh, a member of Pune River Revival, shared additional information on the matter via the X handle. Singh highlighted concerns about two critical points, namely Shivaji Nagar E-Square, encompassing a slum area, and RBI square. At both locations, the metro pillars are situated within a 36-meter road width. This raises questions about the PMC’s approach to potential road widening.

Singh queries whether the PMC intends to dismantle the metro station and pillars to facilitate this expansion, rendering the effort to widen Ganeshkhind Road to 45 meters seemingly futile. Singh asserts that this initiative may result in traffic congestion, transforming the neighborhood of Ganeshkhind road into an environmental hazard.

In a tweet, Singh further laments that the 394 trees along Ganeshkhind road serve as the community’s only defense against the impending environmental challenges. However, there is a fear that the PMC will proceed to fell these trees as well. The tweet urges citizens to participate in the walk on December 3 at 7 am, inviting them to witness firsthand the majestic trees that have become casualties of the city’s bureaucratic decisions and the actions of misguided individuals and politicians. The gathering aims to draw attention to the sacrifice made by these trees, highlighting the adverse impact on the city, including issues related to garbage, sewage, and air pollution.

The ‘Chalo Chipko’ walk is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, December 3, at 7 am, starting from Hardikar Hospital and concluding at the Reliance Mart Building.
