Air pollution in Pune: NGO calls for entries from children for its ‘Breathless Air’ photo contest

Pune: Pune Air Action Hub & Parisar have organized a photography contest called ‘Breathless Air’ which is centered around the idea of capturing various aspects of air pollution in Pune city.
As per information, the theme of the contest is ‘The Air We Breathe’. The contest is looking for photos that show different aspects of air pollution, its sources, impacts and solutions to it. Participants are advised to look around to capture creative scenes that would tell everyone about air pollution in Pune.
Photographers can cover things like burning, smog, traffic junctions, masks, scarves, dust, health impacts, vulnerable groups, children, rickshaw drivers, delivery personnel, traffic police, hawkers and vendors etc.
Winning photographs will be displayed at the air quality exhibition ‘Breathless Pune’ to be held in January 2024 in Pune.
The Pune Air Action Hub is a citizen’s initiative for cleaner air in the city and includes concerned citizens as well as organizations working on different issues.
Shweta Vernekar, Senior Programme Associate, Parisar, shared that after Delhi, air pollution is hitting the headlines in Pune. It is a major health concern and yet many people hardly know the extent of its impacts. Thus, Punekars are invited to participate in a photo competition capturing various aspects of air pollution in Pune city. The best photos will be displayed at the ‘Breathless Pune exhibition’ in January 2024.
The rules of the competition are:
· Photos must be clicked in Pune
· Photos should be of a good resolution to enable printing (1350 x 1800 pp)
The contest is open for school children from 7th to 10th grade, media persons as well as all citizens.
Instructions for photo submission:
· For school students, photos should be submitted to [email protected] with the subject ‘Air Pollution Photograph: School’.
· For other citizens & media persons, photos should be submitted to [email protected] with the subject ‘Air Pollution Photograph: Open/ Mediapersons’.
· Along with the photo, a caption and a short description of the photo up to 150 words should be provided in the email.
Participants can share photos till December 31, 2023. Hence, all Punekars are encouraged to take part in this photo contest.
