Pune: According to Pune Fire Brigade Service, only 15-20 per cent of the housing societies in the city have completed fire safety audit.

Sharing details about the same, city fire chief Devendra Potfode said, “Only 10-15 percent of housing societies in Pune have completed form B.  However, despite repeated reminders to comply with the Act, some societies fail to do so. Hence now we have appealed them again to submit it as early as possible which will be beneficial for safety and security of the societies.’’

According to the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006, it is mandatory for owners/occupiers to furnish ‘Form B’ issued by a licensed agency twice a year, once  in January and once in July. The societies failing to comply will have to face action, warned the fire officials.

State Fire Service Department has also decided to reach out housing societies members across Maharashtra through housing societies federation to urge societies to submit fire safety equipment reports to local fire authorities.

Suhas Patwardhan, Chairman of Pune District Co-operative Housing Federation said,“ Yes we have already informed housing societies to complete all fire safety related procedures on a timely basis. It will only be helpful for them to avoid any untoward incident.’’
