In a major IPS reshuffle in Maharashtra, Amitesh Kumar, who was holding the charge of the Nagpur commissioner of police, will be the next commissioner of police in Pune, replacing Retesh Kumaarr, who has been transferred as commandant general of Maharashtra Home Guard.

This was decided by the Maharashtra State Home Department. They’ve moved around 50 other police officers in the state because of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Pravin Pawar, who was till now holding the charge of the special inspector general of the Konkan range, will take over as the joint police commissioner of the Pune city police.

In rural Pune, Ankit Goyal got promoted to DIG in Gadchiroli. Pankaj Deshmukh is now the Superintendent of Police for rural Pune.

Retesh Kumaarr, who took over as the Pune commissioner of police in December 2022, took stringent action against criminal gangs under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act.
