Ashwini Laxman Jagtap wins Chinchwad by-polls

Chinchwad: In a closely contested by-poll election in the Chinchwad Assembly Constituency, BJP candidate Ashwini Jagtap emerged victorious with a total of 1,35,000 votes. The election was held after the demise of MLA Laxman Jagtap, which left the constituency seat vacant. She won the elections by a margin of 36,000 votes. Rahul Kalate played a major role in vote division of Maha Vikas Aghadi, which led to Nana Kate’s loss in the election.

Ashwini Jagtap was representing the BJP party in the election, while Nana Kate was contesting on behalf of Mahavikas Aghadi. Another opposition candidate, Rahul Kalate, was also in the fray. Ashwini Jagtap is the first woman MLA of Chinchwad constituency.

She credited her victory to the massive development work done initiated by her husband Laxman Jagtap. Late Laxman Jagtap had served as MLA for three times in the Chinchwad Assembly constituency, which was formed in 2009.

The BJP candidate managed to secure a total of votes, which proved to be a decisive factor in his victory. Nana Kate and Rahul Kalate lost the elections.
