Baramati, May 4, 2026: The Baramati Assembly by election is witnessing a decisive trend, with Sunetra Pawar establishing a commanding lead from the early stages of counting. As of the sixth round, she has crossed the 54,000-vote mark, leaving her opponents far behind.
The counting process began at 8 am at the Warehousing Corporation facility in the Baramati MIDC area under tight security arrangements. Officials first counted postal ballots, followed by votes recorded in electronic voting machines (EVMs).
Sunetra Pawar maintained a strong lead throughout the counting. By the end of the third round, she had secured 26,773 votes. Her tally continued to rise steadily, reaching 45,010 votes after the fifth round and surpassing 54,000 votes by the sixth round, indicating a one-sided contest.
A total of 23 candidates are in the fray, but the early trends suggest that the contest has largely tilted in favour of Pawar. Candidates such as Abhijit Bichukale, Karuna Munde, and Chandrakant Waghmode have received comparatively minimal votes so far.
Outside the counting centre, supporters have begun celebrations, anticipating a comfortable victory. The strong mandate is being seen as a significant political message from voters in the constituency.
