The tragic accident that claimed Ajit Pawar and four others was not just a political shock, but a human tragedy that shattered families and unfinished dreams

The plane crash in Baramati on Wednesday morning has left Maharashtra in deep grief. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar lost his life in the accident, along with four others who were travelling with him. The incident occurred when the chartered aircraft went out of control while landing at Baramati airport, crashed, and caught fire. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), all five people on board died on the spot, and no one survived the crash.

Ajit Pawar was travelling from Mumbai to Baramati to attend a public meeting during the ongoing Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections. The crash took place around 9 am and immediately sent shockwaves across the political and social landscape of the state. At 66, Ajit Pawar was a towering figure in Maharashtra politics, having served multiple terms as Deputy Chief Minister and as the national president of the NCP. His death has cast a pall of gloom over Indian politics and left an irreplaceable void in public life.

However, this tragedy is not only about the loss of a senior political leader. Four other lives were lost, each with their own stories, struggles, and dreams. The aircraft was carrying Captain Sumit Kapoor, co-pilot Shambhavi Pathak, Ajit Pawar’s bodyguard Videep Dilip Jadhav, and flight attendant Pinky Mali.

Videep Dilip Jadhav, Ajit Pawar’s personal security officer (PSO), was known as a loyal and vigilant officer. He had been serving in the Mumbai Police since 2009 and had been a constant shadow to Ajit Pawar, ensuring his safety in every public and private movement. Originally from the Vitava area of Thane, he was regarded as disciplined, dedicated, and deeply committed to his duty. For years, he stood silently behind his leader, protecting him, never imagining that his life would end while doing his job.

The aircraft was piloted by Captain Sumit Kapoor, an experienced aviator associated with VSR Ventures Private Limited. He had over 16,500 hours of flying experience and had operated numerous high-profile chartered flights. Known for his professionalism, he had spent many years in the aviation sector and was considered a seasoned and reliable pilot. His experience makes the incident even more painful, as it highlights how unpredictable and unforgiving aviation accidents can be.

Co-pilot Shambhavi Pathak was a young and inspiring example of determination. Originally from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, she began her schooling in 2006 at Gwalior Air Force Vidya Bharti School. Her childhood dreams of flying gradually turned into a professional goal. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautics, Aviation, and Aerospace Science and Technology from the University of Mumbai. Between 2018 and 2019, she received flight training at the New Zealand International Commercial Pilot Academy. She had been associated with the company for the past four years and was steadily building a promising career in aviation.

Flight attendant Pinky Mali’s story has touched hearts across the country. Originally from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, her family had settled in Maharashtra in search of better opportunities. Her father drove a cab on the streets of Mumbai to support her education and dreams. From studying at a training institute in Malad to earning promotions through hard work, Pinky carved her own path. She began her career with Air India and later joined a private chartered flight company. Over the years, she served several VIP passengers, including Presidents and Chief Ministers. Today, the same young woman who once flew with pride has fallen silent forever, leaving behind broken dreams and a grieving family.

This crash was not just an aviation disaster or a political event. It was a moment where multiple families lost their world. Homes that were once filled with hope are now filled with silence. Parents lost their children, families lost their protectors, and the nation lost dedicated professionals who were simply doing their duty.

While investigations are ongoing to determine what exactly caused the aircraft to go out of control, the human cost of the tragedy is already painfully clear. The Baramati plane crash stands as a reminder that behind every breaking news headline are real lives, real sacrifices, and stories that deserved a longer future.
