Bavdhan: Bavdhan Citizens Forum (BCF) has written to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding the extra property taxes levied on Bavdhan Budruk and Bavdhan Khurd, the newly added-villages within PMC limits.

The letter given to PMC states, “The property tax has been increased. Even after bringing Bavdhan Budruk village under Pune Municipal Corporation in July-2021, the corporation is failing to provide basic facilities like water, roads, and electricity to citizens. Due to this, the residents are facing a lot of problems.”

“Residents state that the Pune Municipal Corporation is not giving any explanation about the extra property tax being charged. Due to this, at least 25,000 residents are affected, the letter said. The residents are ready to pay the taxes if basic amenities are provided, said the letter.

Manish Deo, a member of Bavdhan Citizens Forum, shared the plight of the residents without basic facilities, even as extra taxes are being levied on them.

Another member, Nachiket Deshpande of BCF said, “Residents who have taken possession and have occupation certificates before 2021 have been levied extra taxes at present. These residents can pay the taxes in phases spread across 5 years. Those residents who have received their occupation certificates after July 2021 are supposed to pay the extra property tax at once. So we are seeking help from PMC to get some relief in payment methods which have been given to properties before 2021. We have appealed to PMC to apply the same methodology to those who have got their OC after July 2021.”
