BCCI Imposes Restrictions on Players’ Families During Overseas Tours
Following India’s disappointing Border-Gavaskar Trophy performance in Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has implemented strict rules regarding players’ families on overseas tours. The move is aimed at improving player focus and performance.
According to a *Dainik Jagran* report, during tours of 45 days or exceeding 45 days, players’ wives and families can stay with them for only 14 days. For shorter tours, the limit is reduced to seven days.
During the recent Australia tour, which lasted over 50 days, several players’ families accompanied them. Former captain Virat Kohli’s wife, Anushka Sharma, was present throughout the series. KL Rahul’s wife, Athiya Shetty, also joined him on the tour. Shubman Gill and Nitish Kumar Reddy’s parents were seen in Melbourne during the fourth Test, which India lost.
The BCCI has also banned personal managers and assistants from accompanying players and coaches on tours. This decision directly affects Gautam Gambhir, whose manager, Gaurav Arora, previously enjoyed BCCI-funded facilities. Arora will no longer be allowed to stay in team hotels or sit in VIP boxes at stadiums.
The BCCI believes these measures will help players remain focused and deliver better performances. The restrictions are expected to streamline team operations and reduce distractions.
The decision comes as part of the BCCI’s broader effort to address concerns raised after India’s poor show in Australia, ensuring a more professional and disciplined approach in future tours.
