The food you consume in the morning can significantly impact your energy levels throughout the day. Research has shown that consuming sugary foods at the start of your day can cause a sudden increase in your blood sugar levels, which may result in decreased energy levels, weight problems, and even prediabetes.

In an Instagram post, a nutritionist disclosed the three foods that should be avoided for breakfast or as a way to kickstart your day. According to her, indulging in your beloved chai and biscuits, or opting for a packet of breakfast cereal and fruit juice boxes, can potentially lead to diabetes in the future.

According to the nutritionist, the following foods are considered to be the worst:

1. Tea and coffee

2. Fruit juice

3. Breakfast cereals and energy bars

In the caption, the specialist emphasized that beginning your day with common breakfast items such as tea or coffee, cereal, and fruit juice, whether packaged or freshly squeezed, can significantly raise your blood sugar levels and may not provide as many benefits as you believe. Additionally, the expert noted that even small amounts of caffeine found in tea and coffee can cause a 50% increase in blood glucose.

However, opting for fruit juice as an alternative, which is often perceived as a healthy choice, is actually not beneficial. Strained fruit juices lack the fiber content that aids in digestion. Additionally, consuming juice from a box or even freshly squeezed fruit juice can cause a sudden spike in blood sugar levels when consumed on an empty stomach, as clarified by the specialist.

Additionally, it is important to take into account that breakfast cereals have a higher amount of added sugars in the form of inverted corn syrup, preservatives, and flavouring agents compared to biscuits and cookies, as stated by the nutritionist.

Given this information, what alternatives should you consider to start your day off right? Here are a few recommendations:

  • 1. Commence your day by hydrating your body with warm water as soon as you wake up.
  • 2. Opt for soaked nuts and seeds as a nourishing source of energy for your morning routine.
  • 3. Select breakfast choices such as sprouts, eggs, vegetables, or dal cheela, which are packed with protein and fiber.
  • 4. If you prefer porridge, consider having steel-cut oats with whole milk, preferably A2 milk.

Nutritionists recommend incorporating these nourishing foods into your diet to promote hormonal balance, prevent excessive insulin release, and sustain satiety for an extended period.
