84 per cent of the work of the coastal road project has been completed and the state government is trying to start a part of the coastal road before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Therefore, a part of the coastal road, from Worli to Marine Drive, is likely to be open for public commute from the second week of February. It is worthy to note that May 2024 is the deadline for the start of the entire project.

As per information, there will be a total of eight stops of BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport) Bus on the Coastal Road. This road will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Vehicles will have a speed limit of 80 to 100 km per hour on this road. 24 CCTV cameras, 30 video incident detection systems and 80 emergency phone systems at every 100 meters on the coastal road will be provided for the safety of vehicles and passengers on the coastal road.

The first phase of the 10.58 km from Princes Street to Worli Sea Link, which will take Mumbaikars directly from South Mumbai to Worli, will start in February 2024.

The fourth lane on Coastal Road is reserved for BEST buses and emergency vehicles. 8 to 10 bus stops will be there on this entire road. Hence, Mumbaikars who do not have vehicles can travel by BEST buses on the coastal road.
