Bharatiya Janata Party Appoints 12 Maharashtra Vice Presidents; Krishnaraj Mahadik Named State Youth Wing Chief
Mumbai, February 24, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a major organisational reshuffle in Maharashtra, appointing 12 new state vice presidents and assigning key leadership roles as part of its strategy to strengthen the party ahead of upcoming local body elections.
State BJP president Ravindra Chavan unveiled the new appointments at a press conference held at the party’s Mumbai office on Tuesday. Prominent leaders inducted as state vice presidents include Keshav Upadhye, Gopichand Padalkar, Sujay Vikhe Patil, Bharati Pawar and Archana Patil Chakurkar. Some existing office-bearers have been elevated, while others have been assigned fresh responsibilities to energise the organisation.
Chavan expressed confidence that the new team would enhance coordination at the state level and infuse renewed momentum among party workers. He noted that while organisational posts are limited, leaders who could not be accommodated would be given opportunities through various party fronts and campaign committees.
Krishnaraj Mahadik to Lead Youth Wing
The most closely watched appointment is that of Krishnaraj Mahadik as president of the BJP’s Maharashtra Youth Wing. He is the son of Rajya Sabha MP Dhananjay Mahadik and had recently drawn attention for withdrawing his candidature in a municipal election following party directives.
Party insiders suggest that his elevation is being viewed as recognition of his loyalty and organisational discipline. As youth wing chief, Krishnaraj Mahadik will be tasked with mobilising young party workers across the state, providing training, and preparing them for forthcoming Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti and other local body polls, where the youth wing is expected to play a decisive role.
Strategic Social and Regional Balancing
Keshav Upadhye, who has served as the party’s chief spokesperson in Maharashtra, has been promoted to the post of state vice president. Known for articulating the party’s stance in the media, he will now oversee organisational expansion, cadre coordination and pre-election preparations.
The appointment of Gopichand Padalkar, an MLA from Jat and a prominent leader from western Maharashtra, is seen as an effort to strengthen the party’s base in the region and expand outreach among the communities. Political observers believe the reshuffle reflects the BJP’s attempt to balance regional representation and social equations while consolidating its organisational structure.
With these changes, the party leadership aims to sharpen its grassroots machinery and position itself strongly for upcoming electoral contests across Maharashtra.
