Bhimpalas – A musical tribute to Pandit Bhimsen Joshi

Pune, October 11: Punekars will get a chance to witness and enjoy a classical musical extravaganza – ‘Bhimpalas’, which will be held to mark the birth centenary year of legendary vocalist Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, on Sunday October 16 at the Shakuntala Jagannath Shetty auditorium, Dr Kalmadi Shamarao high-school, Ganeshnagar, Erandwane from 9.30 AM to 9.30 PM. Entry to the program is free on a first come first serve basis.

Dharwad-based G B Joshi Memorial Trust and Hubli-based Samata Sanstha, which have been conducting the musical fest for the past one year in all parts of Karnataka, with support from department of Kannada and Culture, Karnataka Government, will now hold the music concert in Pune, in coordination with Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri Kalakshetra, Avartan Gurukul and Nanasaheb Alwani Charitable Trust.

The musical program will commence with the performance of flautist Shadaj Godkhindi, who will be accompanied by Ajinkya Joshi (tabla) followed by the performance of vocalist Pandit M Venkatesh Kumar, who will be accompanied by Suyog Kundalkar (harmonium) and Bharat Kamat (tabla). Vocalist Pandit Jayateerth Mevundi will present his performance and he will be accompanied by Milind Kulkarni (harmonium) and Ramdas Palsule (tabla).

Subsequently, Vocalist Shivani Mirajkar will also perform at the event and she will be accompanied by Chandrakant Chitte (harmonium) and Parth Tarabadkar (tabla). The penultimate performance will be delivered by Sitar player Ustad Mohasin Khan, who will be accompanied by Pandit Ramdas Palsule (tabla). The musical fest will conclude with vocalist Pandit Ganapati Bhat’s performance and he will be accompanied by Suyog Kundalkar (harmonium) and Bharat Kamat (tabla).
