Chinchwad Constituency: Who Will Emerge as the Candidate? Rahul Kalate, Ashwini Jagtap, Nana Kate, Shatrughna Kate, or Will Shankar Jagtap Revolt ?Â
The focus is currently on the Chinchwad constituency, one of the three assembly constituencies in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Currently, BJP’s Ashwini Jagtap holds the MLA position in Chinchwad, leading to speculation that BJP might retain the seat. Naturally, Ashwini Jagtap is once again an aspirant for the constituency, claiming to be the rightful successor to the work of her late husband, Laxman Jagtap.
However, her brother-in-law, Shankar Jagtap, who is also the BJP city president, is preparing to contest the election. It is said that during the by-election, Shankar Jagtap was the favored candidate, but Ashwini Jagtap’s threat to rebel and possibly join the NCP led to Shankar backing off. His supporters are confident that this time, the party will favor him.
Despite family members allegedly settling their differences, there are fresh rumors of Ashwini Jagtap’s potential entry into the NCP, raising questions about whether the family feud has truly ended. If not, both Ashwini and Shankar Jagtap could end up rebelling, leading to a battle between the Jagtaps within the constituency.
Alongside this internal BJP conflict, other party members like Chandrakant Nakhate and Shatrughna Kate have also expressed their interest in running for the assembly seat. Meanwhile, from Ajit Pawar’s NCP, Nana Kate is seen as a strong candidate. Nana Kate, who has previously secured close to 1 lakh votes, is confident but faces challenges in recreating his previous success, especially as the NCP might have lost the momentum it once had.
Independent candidate Rahul Kalate, who had previously given a tough fight to BJP in the 2019 elections, also remains a wildcard. However, his narrative of splitting votes has somewhat dampened his prospects. There is also speculation that he may join the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP, with MP Amol Kolhe being his primary supporter.
