The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI)’s Pune Regional Unit discovered over 5.6 kg of gold worth more than Rs 3 crore in a significant smuggling intercept. 

The gold was hidden as gold paste in a woman passenger’s waist belt at the Pune International Airport.

As per information DRI Pune Regional Unit had received specific information to the effect that one lady passenger along with an accomplice will be arriving at Pune International Airport from Dubai by the Spice Jet Flight No SG-152 on 24.01.2024 and will be smuggling contraband viz. gold concealed either in her person or in her baggage. 

Acting upon intelligence, DRI Pune officers mounted surveillance at the arrival hall of Pune International Airport.

The lady passenger was identified and found to be carrying white colored belt containing around 5482.39 grams of gold paste and one off-white colored pouch containing around 1432.28 of gold paste.  One more person travelling with her, who was her associate has also been apprehended at the airport.

The total gold weighing 5.67 Kg valued at Rs. 3.66 Cr approx, extracted out of the gold paste weighing 6.9 Kg, has been seized under Customs Act, 1962.

Both the persons have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. 

Further investigation is in process.
