Covid Variant JN.1: One person dies of COVID-19 in Bengaluru

Media reports said that the person who died in Bengaluru was suffering from co-morbidity. 

The reports say that the person, who succumbed to corona complications was a resident of Chamrajpet in Bengaluru. 

While this is the first case in Karnataka, Kerala registered three deaths on December 19. 

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported that the number of active case climbed to 2,997 from 2,669 the day before, on Friday.

In Goa, the sources said, no clustering of cases of the JN.1 variant has been seen and all infected people have recovered without complications.

While there are no guidelines or restrictions on activities and gatherings, it has been advised to take precautionary measures while in public, wearing masks is one of them. The Centre issued an advisory regarding the upsurge of COVID cases on Monday, December 18, 2023. 

States in India have been urged to follow the detailed operational guidelines for the revised surveillance strategy for COVID-19 which was provided by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently classified JN.1 as a variant of interest, distinct from its parent lineage BA.2.86. However, the global health body said that the overall risk posed by JN.1 remains low based on current evidence.
