Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders have faced criticism for the Shinde-Fadnavis government’s handling of contractual police recruitment in the state. Additionally, the leaders have been questioned about the overall performance of the police department.

In response to these concerns, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis made a significant announcement during a press conference on October 20. The Shinde-Fadnavis government has decided to cancel the Government Resolution (GR) regarding contractual recruitment in the state. Fadnavis took the opportunity to take a dig at the MVA leaders.

During the announcement, Devendra Fadnavis stated, “The responsibility for contractual recruitment lies entirely with the Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP. I have discussed this matter with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, questioning why we should bear the consequences of their actions. Therefore, we have made the decision to cancel the GR issued by their government regarding contractual recruitment.”

Regarding the policy of contractual recruitment, Fadnavis expressed, “There has been a significant uproar surrounding contractual recruitment in Maharashtra. Interestingly, those who are responsible for it and have implemented it are the ones making the most noise. I am presenting certain facts to the public so that they can determine who is truly accountable for contract recruitment.”

Fadnavis further elaborated, “The initial decision for contractual recruitment in Maharashtra was made on March 13, 2003. It was during the tenure of the Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP government that contract recruitment was first introduced in the education department. Contractual recruitment was initiated again in 2010 when Ashok Chavan was the chief minister.

In 2010, Ashok Chavan issued the first GR, and subsequently, another GR was issued for 6,000 contractual posts.” “I have more documents at my disposal, and I intend to expose everyone involved. On September 1, 2021, Uddhav Bal Thackeray assumed the role of Chief Minister. They approved contract recruitment, and the draft was published on the Mahatender portal on September 2. A pre-tender meeting took place on September 9, and the deadline for bid submissions is January 31, 2022. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s involvement is evident throughout this process.”
