Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 3.07 kg of banned ‘amphetamine’ substance worth over Rs 24 crore from Nagpur Airport

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials of Nagpur Dr. At Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport on 20.08.2023 , an Indian national who had arrived from Nairobi, Kenya via Sharjah , UAE was detained and 3.07 kg of ” Amphetamine type substance” was seized from him.

A passenger who arrived at Nagpur International Airport by Air Arabia Flight No. G9-415 from Sharjah had hidden the contraband in a hollow metal roller enclosed in a rectangular cardboard box in his personal baggage. Amphetamine is a psychotropic substance listed under Schedule I of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985  and its trade is prohibited. The person was arrested and produced before the First Class Judicial Magistrate , Nagpur. The court sent him to DRI custody. The Nigerian national to whom the contraband was to be supplied by the arrested person , the authorities was  quickly followed up and arrested on 21.08.2023 from Subhash Nagar area of West Delhi.

Such a massive seizure of the highly stimulant amphetamine-type substance from a small airport like Nagpur indicates that gangs involved in illegal activities are adopting new locations and methods. The Directorate is continuously monitoring to eradicate such gangs.
