The employee must communicate with colleagues through messaging or Microsoft Teams.
“Silent office. No talking even for a second. Jail is better. At least I can talk there, look around, or stand up if I want to,” these are the words used by the employee.
The post has generated reactions encouraging the employees to publicly identify the company and share their experiences on platforms such as Glassdoor to warn potential job applicants.
Incivility in the workplace is increasingly prevalent, and a recent study highlights its detrimental impact on one of our most vital resources—our mental health.
Research featured in the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology examined the link between workplace toxicity and insomnia, which is often a key indicator of clinical depression.
“I cannot even look at anything else other than my desktop. Cannot even close my eyes for a while to prevent eye strain. Phone’s not allowed in the office even if it’s a call from family unless really really urgent. Cannot use the washroom frequently because it’s time-consuming. Cannot talk to the person sitting right beside me to prevent chaos in the office I have to text him and talk on Microsoft Teams if there is a requirement,” he adds.
Netizens were clearly angered by the contents of the post. “Cannot believe this is the sort of contracts that people actually have to agree to, just to be able to support the minimum requirements of life. The government will proudly present these organizations as “employment sources” whilst there is no governing body which regulates and checks the working conditions or the employment contracts,” said one comment.
