Pune: The Indian Railways is renowned as the largest railway network globally, attracting millions of passengers who seek affordable and efficient transportation daily. It may come as a surprise, but the Indian Railways operates a staggering 13,169 trains each day, facilitating seamless travel between various destinations.

However, despite the extensive train services, acquiring a confirmed ticket for a desired train at the last moment often requires considerable effort. Similarly, securing a preferred seat on the train can present challenges.

The number of seats in a train is contingent upon the number of coaches present. Each coach typically offers between 72 to 110 seats on average. Third AC and sleeper coaches have five distinct types of seats: first lower berth, second middle berth, third upper berth, fourth lower berth, and fifth upper berth. Passengers have the option to either sit or sleep during their journey, depending on their preference. If you desire a specific seat, you must follow certain steps when booking your ticket.

When making a reservation for a train, you may have the option to select a preferred seat. However, it is important to note that even if you choose a specific seat, it is not guaranteed that you will be assigned that seat. Your chances of getting your preferred seat are higher if there are many available seats on the train at the time of booking.

The ticket booking software of Indian Railways has been meticulously designed to ensure equal weight distribution throughout the train. When a passenger books the first ticket, they are assigned a seat in the middle coach, which is also a lower berth. This software efficiently allocates seats in a manner that ensures passengers are evenly distributed across the train. During the booking process, this software ensures that the initial seats are reserved in the center of the coach, while the remaining seats are reserved towards the end of the coach, closer to the gate.
