As Pune prepares to observe Eid on March 21, 2026, the city and its adjoining PCMC areas are gearing up for large congregational prayers. With thousands expected to gather at prominent Eidgah grounds, the traffic police have rolled out special arrangements to ensure public safety and smooth movement across key locations.

In Pune city, Namaz will take place at the Eidgah Maidan near Golibar Maidan Chowk, while in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, devotees will assemble at the Eidgah ground near Chapekar Chowk in Nigdi. To manage the anticipated rush, authorities have imposed temporary traffic restrictions in both zones.

Traffic Changes in Pune (6:00 AM to 11:30 AM)

During the morning hours, vehicular movement around Golibar Chowk will be significantly altered. All regular traffic will be diverted to alternate routes, although government vehicles on duty and emergency services will continue to operate without restrictions.

Heavy vehicles have been instructed to avoid the area entirely and instead use routes such as Solapur Road, Lullanagar, and Khatav Bungalow Road. Notably, heavy vehicles heading towards Pune Railway Station will not be allowed during this time window.

For light vehicles, alternate routes via Empress Garden Road and Bishop’s School Road have been designated to ease congestion.

Certain stretches will remain completely closed to traffic, including:

Mammadevi Chowk to Golibar Chowk

Old Solapur Bazaar Chowk to Golibar Chowk

Additionally:

Vehicles traveling from CDO Square towards Golibar Chowk will be redirected via Napier Road

Traffic moving from Swargate towards Solapur will be diverted between Seven Loves Chowk and Golibar Chowk

Vehicles from Khane Maruti Chowk will be routed through Pulgate Depot to Solapur Bazaar Chowk and then towards Napier Road via Khatav Bungalow Road

Traffic Restrictions in Nigdi (5:00 AM to 1:00 PM)

In the Nigdi area under PCMC limits, restrictions will remain in place for a longer duration. Movement will be completely halted between Mari Ai Mata Temple and Chapekar Chowk in both directions.

Moreover, vehicles traveling from Morya Nagar towards Chapekar Chowk will also face restrictions during this period.

Police Advisory

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Himmat Jadhav, has urged citizens to cooperate with traffic personnel and adhere to the diversions. Following the guidelines, he emphasized, will help prevent unnecessary delays and ensure a smoother experience for both commuters and those attending the Eid prayers.
