The Maharashtra government has revised the public holiday for Eid-E-Milad 2025 in Mumbai city and suburban districts. As per the notification issued by the General Administration Department on September 3, the holiday will now be observed on Monday, September 8, 2025, instead of Friday, September 5, 2025.

The decision was taken following requests from Muslim organizations, who had earlier resolved to hold the traditional Eid-E-Milad procession on September 8, a day after Anant Chaturdashi (September 6). The move aims to prevent overcrowding and ensure smooth law and order management, especially for the police force, which faces significant responsibility during both festivals.

According to the government’s revised order, all government offices, schools, and colleges in Mumbai city and suburban districts will remain closed on Monday, September 8. However, in other districts of Maharashtra, the holiday will continue to be observed on Friday, September 5, as originally announced.

This update means that for Mumbai residents, the weekend will effectively become a three-day break (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday). Many working professionals and students are expected to utilize this extended holiday for travel and family gatherings.

The government clarified that the change is applicable only to Mumbai and its suburban districts, while the rest of Maharashtra will follow the earlier holiday schedule.
