Kolhapur district in Maharashtra has witnessed a tragic series of poisoning cases, resulting in the deaths of five individuals over two days. The incidents, involving two separate families, have sparked a police investigation and raised concerns about food safety and possible foul play.
Incident in Mandre, Karveer Taluka
In Mandre village, two brothers and their father succumbed to poisoning, reportedly after consuming chicken meat bitten by a mongoose. The two children died within days of each other, following their father’s death 15 days earlier under similar circumstances. A third child remains in critical condition.
Karveer police have preserved the viscera of the deceased and sent samples to a forensic laboratory to determine the type of poison involved. Ganga, the wife of the deceased father, has expressed suspicions, prompting police to question her and her mother. However, no conclusive leads have emerged so far.
Incident in Chimgaon, Kagal Taluka
In a separate case, seven-year-old Kavya Angad and her four-year-old brother Shriyansh Angad from Chimgaon died hours apart after consuming meat during the day and a cake in the evening. The children’s sudden deaths have led police to suspect food poisoning.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have taken the incidents seriously and are pursuing multiple angles, including accidental food contamination and deliberate poisoning. Samples from stomach organs and other tissues of the deceased have been sent for forensic analysis, which is expected to shed light on the cause of the poisoning.
