Five Killed as Car Plunges Into River on Mumbai-Goa Highway in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri

A tragic accident claimed the lives of five people after their car skidded off the Mumbai-Goa Highway and plunged into the Jagbudi River in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district early Monday morning.
According to initial reports, the vehicle, en route from Mumbai to Devrukh for a funeral, lost control around 5 a.m. and fell nearly 100 to 150 feet into the river. The driver, who survived the crash, was injured and rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
Rescue teams and local residents responded swiftly, attempting to save the victims trapped inside the submerged vehicle. The severely damaged car was later pulled out of the river using cranes. Police officials faced significant challenges in retrieving the bodies from the wreckage.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
In a separate incident earlier this week, three people lost their lives and eight were injured in a head-on collision between a tempo traveller and a speeding truck near Salpe village on the Satara-Lonand route during the night of May 10 and 11.
