Focus on Wanowrie’s crematorium: MNS
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena NIBM Prabhag president Rohan Gaikwad lists out series of complaints about the crematorium,
officials say it is being maintained.
Gaikwad further told Pune Pulse that it is the PMC’s duty to deploy additional security personnel at each crematorium and also keep pits ready at the crematorium, along with other facilities.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s NIBM branch recently took up the issue of safety and hygiene at Wanowrie’s crematorium.
NIBM Prabhag president, Rohan Gaikwad raised his voice against the absence of a security personnel during late evenings and night hours at the crematorium. He also raised concerns about the basic hygiene and cleanliness within the premises of the crematorium.
While speaking to Pune Pulse, he said, “A resident of Wanowrie came to perform the final rites of a deceased family member at the crematorium but when the resident reached the crematorium, there was no attendant. The contact numbers of the attendants pasted on the walls went unanswered. After two hours of waiting, one person attended the call but asked the resident himself to collect the keys of the store room from Salunke Vihar road gas crematorium. The resident collected the keys, opened the room and removed the spade and other required material to dig a pit to bury the body. After performing the final rites the keys were kept at the Salunke Vihar gas crematorium by the resident himself. The premises of the crematorium had no lights, grass was overgrown and the security was missing.”
Gaikwad said that it was only after he raised his voice against the issue, the PMC health department conducted a cleanliness drive in the premises and the electricity department repaired the lights.
When Pune Pulse spoke to Pradeep Raut, health inspector, Wanawadi Ramtekdi ward office, he said, “We conduct cleanliness drive every fortnight wherein we perform deep cleaning of the area and remove the grass too.”
