The Pune Metro will lease its elevated corridor and metro stations to telecom service providers so they can install the necessary infrastructure to boost non-fare revenue.

A senior Pune Metro official said that to maintain low fares for passengers, the Pune Metro is investigating all potential non-fare revenue streams. For the public to use the metro service as much as possible, it must be offered at reasonable prices. In order to provide the highest level of telecom connectivity for its operations, the Pune Metro has already installed fiber optics along its route. Any excess bandwidth will be leased to individuals who require it.

The official further said that the Pune Metro network is there in areas with high traffic volume and well-known spots where mobile operators can access telecom connectivity bands. It will add value to the telecom sector by making use of the Pune Metro network’s existing space.

The Pune metro is leasing space on its buildings, including the metro station and depot, for the installation of telecom towers and permitting Over Head Equipment (OHE) masts for small cell systems.

Ten years will be used to lease the 535 OHE mast locations. Each location will have a maximum of three small cell antennas and one back haul link antenna.
