Meghan Brown, a former analyst with JP Morgan, has been awarded $35 million (approximately Rs 292 crore) in compensation after a glass door shattered on her in Manhattan. The incident occurred in 2015, resulting in permanent brain damage for Brown, according to reports.

The viral video capturing the incident shows Brown pushing the glass door to exit a building, only for it to shatter on her, leaving her in pain. The footage, shared by user Collin Rugg, depicts the chaotic moment as onlookers rush to her aid.

Following the incident, Brown suffered a traumatic brain injury, which she claims ruined her career. She was out of a job for a year and eventually returned to JP Morgan, where she worked until being fired in 2021.

The jury awarded Brown $35,184,208 in damages after finding that the negligence of building owner 271 Madison Co. was a substantial factor in causing her injury. Brown’s legal team argued that the incident left her with severe health ailments, including PTSD, memory decline, sensitivity to light, focus and vocabulary issues, permanent headaches, neck pain, balance problems, and distorted depth perception. To manage her condition, Brown had to acquire a service dog to prevent further falls.

Despite her challenges, Brown has persevered and currently operates a gelato business after also working for a cryptocurrency company post-JP Morgan.

The substantial compensation awarded to Brown reflects the severity of the incident and its lasting impact on her life, highlighting the importance of accountability in ensuring safety standards in public spaces.
