Pune, February 24: To accommodate the growing number of students coming to Pune for quality education, a new, state-of-the-art boys’ hostel will be constructed at Savitribai Phule Pune University. Additionally, an advanced Central Animal Facility is being developed for scientific research. The foundation stone for both buildings was laid today by Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil.

The Central Animal Facility will make the university the only state university in Maharashtra to offer such a modern research infrastructure. The facility will house and breed laboratory animals such as mice and rabbits for biomedical and pharmaceutical research. This initiative is expected to enhance scientific research in life sciences, biomedical sciences, and pharmaceutical studies. Moreover, it will be open for research collaborations with industries and both government and private institutions.

According to Professor Smita Zinjarde, Director of the School of Life Sciences, and Professor Narhari Grampurohit, Head of the Zoology Department, this facility will attract national and international research funding and benefit students and faculty across Maharashtra.

The foundation ceremony was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Suresh Gosavi. Other dignitaries present included Acting Registrar Prof. Dr. Jyoti Bhakare, Management Council member Ravindra Shinganapurkar, and several university officials and faculty members.
