Vanita Raut, an Independent candidate from Chimur village in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district, has made headlines with her unusual election pledge ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Running under the banner of the Akhil Bhaarateey Maanavata Party, Raut has promised to open beer bars in every village and provide subsidized whiskey and beer to the impoverished constituents if she wins from the Chandrapur constituency.

Expressing her unique campaign platform, Raut emphasized her commitment to addressing the needs of underprivileged voters. She declared her intention to offer free imported whiskey and beer to the poor using funds from the Members of Parliament (MP) fund if elected.

Raut’s pledge has raised eyebrows due to its unconventional nature, with her proposal to introduce imported liquor through a regulated rationing system. According to her plan, both consumers and vendors would be required to obtain licenses for legal consumption and distribution.

Defending her controversial promise, Raut argued that many impoverished individuals rely on alcohol as a form of solace after enduring strenuous labor. She highlighted the prevalence of locally brewed liquor, which lacks quality and often leads to excessive consumption. By providing access to imported spirits, Raut aims to offer a higher quality drinking experience to those who cannot afford it otherwise.

Addressing concerns about the potential negative impact of alcohol abuse on families, Raut countered by asserting the importance of implementing licensing measures to regulate alcohol consumption responsibly.

Raut’s unorthodox campaign strategy has sparked debate and garnered attention for its unconventional approach to addressing social issues. While some question the feasibility and ethics of her proposal, others see it as a reflection of the diverse range of concerns faced by constituents in rural areas.
