Pune: It was decided to provide Wi-Fi facilities in 270 places in the city under Smart City, but only 124 places were connected to the WiFi system. Out of them, only two places namely Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Headquarters and YCM Hospital started WiFi facilities. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has failed to implement Wi-Fi systems elsewhere.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Nilkanth Poman, Chief IT Officer, PCMC said, “The free WiFi facility is located on three floors in YCM Hospital & PCMC Building. In both places, one and a half thousand citizens are availing the service every day. In this, citizens are being given two GB of data free of cost. There are plans to increase it to 5 GB data.”
As per further information, Smart City has decided to provide Wi-Fi facilities at 270 places in the city to facilitate administrative work for the citizens of the city and to facilitate the internal work of the administration. This facility will enable an ecosystem that includes digital kiosks, digital message boards, smart water meters etc.
The municipal main building, municipal hospitals, field offices, schools, and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) center will be connected to the ‘Integrated Command and Control Center’ in Nigdi under the city network. For that, it is necessary to have a WiFi facility in all places. It will be possible to handle the operations at that location from the control and command center.
It will be convenient for the citizens who visit municipal offices, hospitals, and schools for administrative work to do administrative work online by taking advantage of the WiFi facility. Out of 270 locations in the city, the work of connecting the WiFi network has been completed at 124 locations. Smart City has succeeded in starting WiFi in only two of them.
