Pune: The owner of a Dighi garage lost Rs 13 lakh to an online task fraud.

It all started when he was approached by an unidentified woman posing as an executive of a digital agency and offering him substantial returns for his participation in certain online tasks. After that, the victim lost several lakh rupees to the thieves between June 24 and June 30.

The owner of the garage had complained to the Pimpri Chinchwad police cybercrime unit. On Wednesday, a case was registered with the Dighi police.

According to a Dighi police officer, the woman initially messaged the garage owner in June this year, offering him a part-time job that would involve earning money by completing online tasks. The victim accepted the offer, and the woman used a messenger app on her phone to add him to the group. After that, some tasks were assigned to him and money was deposited into his account.

He said that the man was later instructed to invest in paid tasks to receive a respectable commission. The victim moved Rs 13 lakh between various bank accounts and UPI IDs over the course of a week.

The owner of the garage realized he had been duped and would not be receiving any returns. Upon realizing that he had been duped, he launched a complaint with the Dighi police. Police are further investigating the case.
