Just before it was about to make a routine sortie on December 26, an Indian Navy fighter aircraft MiG-29K experienced a tyre burst on the taxiway at the Dabolim airport in Goa.

The MiG-29K aircraft stuck on the taxiway as a result of the tyre burst, but fortunately, no one was hurt. The incident led the authorities to close the airport’s runway until 4 p.m., which they said had an impact on passenger flight services.

A navy spokesperson said that the aircraft experienced a tyre burst while it was on the taxiway prior to its usual sortie. The fire department and other services were called into action right away.

According to the navy spokesperson, the single-pilot aircraft will be relocated off the taxiway.

Part of the naval base INS Hansa is the Dabolim airport, which is situated in the South Goa district. Naval aircraft use the facility at specific times of the day.

A senior Dabolim airport official said that due to the incident, airport operations will not be permitted on the runway until 4:00 PM. Ten flights’ services were impacted. A few aircraft were rerouted to Mopa’s Manohar International Airport.
