Pune : Balewadi residents have raised concern over dumping of garbage in amenity space next to Golden Trellis.

The wireless police department holds the custody of site. It has been reported that garbage collection personnel were instructed by PMC to dispose of waste in this area since last week.

The garbage collection personnel were disposing of waste in the vicinity of the old Jakat naka in Balewadi. However, due to recent road widening activities, that area has been utilized. Consequently, they are now in need of an alternative location. In light of this, a PMC official has suggested that they dump the garbage in an open plot adjacent to GT, which is an inappropriate course of action.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, K N Peethambaran, a resident, expressed concern about the dumping of garbage in the area. He highlighted that the garbage is often burnt, leading to the release of harmful gases that pose a threat to public health. He emphasized the need for close monitoring of this issue and urged authorities to take appropriate action.

In addition, a resident further expressed concerns regarding the lack of security in this area. The indiscriminate dumping of garbage has resulted in significant inconvenience for the residents. Moreover, the burning of this waste emits various harmful gases, which have a detrimental effect on the health of the individuals residing here. Furthermore, these plots have the potential to serve as breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes, thereby increasing the risk of spreading illnesses such as dengue and malaria.

Pune Pulse tried contacting the official but they remained unavailable.
