Good News For Mango Lovers: Junnar Gold Mango Receives Official Recognition From Central Government
Pune, December 13, 2025: In a proud moment for Pune district’s agriculturally rich Junnar taluka, an indigenous mango variety developed by a local farmer has received national recognition. The ‘Junnar Gold’ mango, cultivated by progressive farmer Bharat Jadhav of Buchkewadi village, has been officially recognised by the Central Government as a farmer-developed variety.
After years of continuous experimentation, Jadhav successfully developed the unique mango variety, which has now been granted approval by the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPV&FRA), New Delhi. With this recognition, Junnar Gold is no longer limited to local markets and is set to gain wider national visibility.
The most striking feature of the Junnar Gold mango is its unique blend of qualities—the rich flavour of Alphonso (Hapus), the appealing colour of Kesar, and the large size of Rajapuri mangoes. Each fruit weighs approximately 900 grams to 1 kilogram, making it significantly larger than conventional varieties.

Its attractive appearance and exceptional taste have already created strong demand in the market, according to agricultural experts.
Bharat Jadhav’s achievement has drawn widespread appreciation from the farming community and agricultural experts. The success of the Junnar Gold mango has given Junnar taluka a new identity at the national level, reinforcing its agricultural legacy.
The development of the variety was supported by technical guidance from the Krushi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Narayangaon. Praising the achievement, KVK Chairman Krushiratna Tatya Meher said, “This recognition is the result of years of dedication and experimentation by Bharat Jadhav. His innovation has given Junnar a distinct and unique identity. The Krushi Vigyan Kendra provided all necessary technical support during this journey.”
Sharing his emotions, Bharat Jadhav said, “I have been experimenting with mango varieties since childhood. Receiving national recognition for my mango today is a moment of immense happiness. This achievement honours not just my efforts, but also the farmers of Junnar.”
