On 12 February 2024, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the Panvel-bound arm of Shil-Phata Flyover project on the Old Mumbai Highway (NH-48).


The Panvel-Bound arm is a 45.68 crore project which has a dual carriageway. Each arm has three lanes adding up to a width of 12 meters. One arm of the dual carriageway will serve the Panvel-bound traffic while the others will ferry traffic towards Thane. The 24m wide Flyover is 739.5 meters long and has a 300 meters viaduct for vehicle crossing over to and from Mahape.

This will be a connector linking North-western Mumbai suburbs Borivali, Thane, Gujarat Vasai-Vihar with Navi Mumbai, Konkan, Pune, South India and JNPT.


The stretch sees heavy freight carrying traffic and domestic vehicles travelling towards Kalyan, Dombivali and Badlapur.
The average waiting time at the junction was 10-15 minutes, with the inauguration of Panvel-bound arm is will save a lot lot time of the commuters travelling. According to a local commuter, “Often we used to get late for work as it used to take a lot of time for the traffic to get cleared here. We feel the bridge was the need of the hour to reduce the travel hour between to reduce the travel time between Mumbai and the suburbs too.”
The upcoming projects include the Thane-bound arm, which will be inaugurated in the next few months and a bullet train station.
