Governor Koshiyari likely to step down from Maharashtra’s Governor’s chair

Pune: Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has desired to step down from the Governor’s chair and he has conveyed the message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his recent visit.

In a statement issued by Raj Bhavan on Monday, January 23, it was stated that Koshyari expressed his willingness to spend the rest of his life in reading, writing, and other activities.

‘‘It was an absolute honor and privilege for me to serve as a Rajya Sevak of Rajayapal of a great state like Maharashtra the land of Saints, social reformers, and valiant fighters,’’ said Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

“I can never forget the love and affection I have received from the people of Maharashtra during the last little more than 3 years.  During the recent visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to Mumbai, I have conveyed to him my desire to be discharged of all political responsibilities and to spend the rest of my life in reading, writing and other activities. I have always received the love and affection from the Hon’ble Prime Minister and I hope to receive the same in this regard,” Koshyari has stated in the press release issued by Raj Bhavan.

Koshyari, who is at center of controversy over his remarks on Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji, by calling Shivaji Maharaj an ‘icon of olden times’, had said there were icons such as  Ambedkar and Nitin Gadkari in modern times.
