Hair dryer, doormat, TV remote, utensils: Indian tourists steal items from Bali hotel, viral video sparks outrage
An alleged incident involving Indian tourists at a Bali resort has triggered widespread debate online after a viral video showed hotel staff recovering missing room items during checkout.
A video from Bali’s popular Ubud region has gone viral after hotel staff were seen inspecting the luggage of a group of tourists during checkout and allegedly recovering several items belonging to the property.
The incident reportedly took place at Asvara Resort Ubud, where the tourists had stayed between April 16 and April 19. According to reports, staff noticed that some room items were missing during the checkout process, prompting a search of the guests’ bags.
Items allegedly found inside the luggage included towels, a hair dryer, kimono robes, a doormat, a TV remote box and dining utensils.
The video gained attention after being shared on social media, where users described the incident as embarrassing and damaging to the image of Indian travellers abroad. The clip has since received lakhs of views and sparked strong reactions online.

Indian tourists, who stayed at Ubud, Bali (Indonesia) were caught by hotel-staff stealing stuff from the hotel.
Why would you go to a foreign country and do such cheap act/crime??
This is embarrassing to watch as an Indian. pic.twitter.com/ETtxJArCgl
Many users questioned why travellers who could afford an international holiday would take basic hotel items. Others said such incidents create negative stereotypes for Indian tourists overseas. Some commenters also criticised the behaviour as disrespectful to the host country.
According to local reports, the matter was taken up with resort management and checkout was briefly halted. However, no police complaint was filed.
Authorities reportedly said the issue was resolved after the items were returned. No legal action was taken, and the tourists were later allowed to complete their checkout.
The episode has also reminded many social media users of a similar viral Bali hotel incident from 2019, where staff were seen checking luggage and recovering hotel property from another travelling group.
The latest controversy has reopened conversations around responsible tourism, public behaviour while travelling abroad, and how individual actions can affect the reputation of a larger community.
